"It's not one thing that will change the world. It's people working together. Now go and change the world", emphasized Bill Nye, closing the Climate Action 2016 Summit. That 'Sciencet Guy' moderated the last panel, an inspiring discussion that focused on the role of young leaders in the fight against climate change.
"Just because you are young it does not mean you don’t have a voice.", reminded Jasmine Gregory, ACE youth representative. "Climate change is the moon shot. This is not just an environmental issue. This is also an ethical question. We are talking about human lives" added the young representative.
On the second and last day of the conference, which highlighted multi-sector climate discussions on building resilience, advancing smart-climate agriculture, promoting knowledge and investing in clean transportation and renewable energy. The importance of establishing partnerships between companies, NGOs and governments was an overarching theme throughout, in order to implement the commitments put forward under the Paris Climate Change Agreement.
"Yes, we will deliver" on the promises of the Paris Agreement, ensured Gina McCarthy, United States Environmental Protection Agency administrator.
Throughout the conference Connect4Climate engaged with several organizations and partners, promoted youth empowerment and presented ambitious climate solutions. In talking about the People+Planet Project Natalia Berry, from The Global Brain highlighted the knowledge partnership with Connect4Climate to communicate climate change to diverse audiences by engaging creative industries. We are delighted to welcome The Global Brain to our network to accelerate climate action.
The Climate Action 2016 summit was a tremendous passionate call for action. Bill Nye emphasised that the climate solutions are at hand, the science is undeniable and now is the time to change the world.
